The holiday season is in full swing and getting ready to wrap up. The evidence of our awesome Christmas celebration lay littered all over the living room floor and the family gatherings are STILL not complete. We’ve celebrated with great food and good company. My husband understood the assignment and went all-out on my Christmas presents (he thinks 9 books will keep me busy for a while, hahaha!)
Looking toward the new year though, 2025 is anticipated to bring some great new romantasy releases and I’m thrilled! So which books do I most look forward to in the new year? Well, This Book Beauty has some thoughts.
Top 5 Anticipated Romantasy Releases of 2025

Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros (3rd Book of The Empyrean series)
Readers of Fourth Wing know the second book, Iron Flame, rocked fans to their core, and Onyx Storm remains a top anticipated release for the beginning of 2025. Fortunately for Fourth Wing fanatics, Onyx Storm has a release date of January 21, 2025, so they don’t have too much longer to wait. I don’t think this book will stay on store shelves for long so, if you haven’t already, get Onyx Storm on your pre-order list ASAP!
Scythe & Sparrow by Brynne Weaver (Book 3 in The Ruinous Love Trilogy)
Now this is not a series I have read yet but I have heard many things about the Butcher & Blackbird series and I have to say, if that is your cup of tea, get ready because the finale in this trilogy is due out February 11, 2025! These books are best described as dark romance with notes of thriller and horror and spice galore; if that sounds like a series you want to dive into, you have until February 11th to catch up and be ready when Scythe & Sparrow hits the shelf.
The Primal of Blood and Bone by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Blood and Ash Series)
Another series on my ever-growing TBR list, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Blood and Ash series has a new release on June 10, 2025 to look forward to! Fantasy, romance, vampires, who can ask for more?! Plus, I’ve heard amazing things about Poppy and Casteel, the main characters of this series. In The Primal of Blood and Bone, things are heating up, fate and love hang in the balance. This is NOT one to miss!
The Things Gods Break by Abigail Owen (The Crucible Trilogy)
Mark your calendars for September 16, 2025, because The Things Gods Break is set to release! The first book, The Games Gods Play, caught my attention with its beautiful sprayed edges but I’ve heard amazing things about this book and I’m excited to get it read in time for the September release date of book 2! A mix of romance, fantasy, mythology, Hunger Games, and a bit of adult Percy Jackson creates a thrilling adventure for readers of these genres. Even though we aren’t supposed to judge a book by its cover, the cover for book 2 is just as gorgeous as the cover for book 1. Talk about some shelf-candy!
A Curse Carved in Bone by Danielle L. Jensen (Saga of the Unfated, Book 2)
The much anticipated second book in the Saga of the Unfated, following A Fate Inked in Blood, A Curse Carved in Bone combines romance, fantasy, and Norse mythology. I have this one on my Kindle and when I tell you I am thrilled to get started on A Fate Inked in Blood, I am toning it down. Norse mythology and culture is not typically one of the more common mythologies authors look to for romance books, typically preferring to follow a Hades and Persephone retelling from Greek mythology. The Saga of the Unfated breaks tradition, and we are so grateful for the characters from this series!
Fortunately, with a release date of May 2025, I have a little bit to get book 1 under my belt before book 2 is released. Following the events of Book 1, Freya must work with sworn enemies to seek answers to questions that will affect thousands and alter the course of the future. Eek, I’m so excited!
The Ballad of Falling Dragons by Sarah A. Parker (The Moonfall Series, Book 2)
I received the first book in this series, When the Moon Hatched, for Christmas from my brother-in-law, and his reaction was, “That is a big book”. I just smiled because it’s a big book full of dragons and romance, I’m ecstatic! When the Moon Hatched was an Amazon editor’s pick for Best Books of the Year for 2024 I can only imagine how fantastic Book 2 is going to be. The Ballad of Falling Dragons has a later release date, October 7, 2025, so that gives readers plenty of time to read through the first book and become familiar with the unique magic systems and world that author Sarah A. Parker creates in her series.
Romantasy is an extremely popular genre right now, providing the perfect mix of romance and fantasy elements and giving readers the best of both genres. For fans of this genre, that means that 2025, and hopefully many years going forward, will see many new releases that spark inspiration and wonder in readers across the world. This is NOT an all-inclusive list and just hit some of the highlights that I’ve heard others discussing, and books that are on my lengthy TBR at the moment. If you have a highly anticipated romantasy release of 2025 that I’ve missed, let us know in the comments and share the wealth.
As always, Happy Reading!
