Thanksgiving in the United States has come and gone, and it is officially the Christmas season in my house! Now that the Christmas tree is ready to be put up and the Christmas cookies are ready to be baked, the question on everyone’s mind is: What do you want for Christmas? I know I’ve been asking my brother and sister-in-law what their kids want for weeks! Some of the hardest people to buy for, at least in my experience, are readers. If you have book-loving friends and family, it may be hard to decide what to get them, especially if you don’t have the basic information like their favorite genre or their favorite author.
Let’s say you don’t want to go wrong with picking out a book that may just join the countless others on your friend’s endless “to be read” (TBR) list, what then?
Here are 5 Non-Book Gifts Your Book-Loving Friends Will Love:
All Of The Comfy Things
If your reader friends and family are anything like the other avid readers that I know, you can’t go wrong with a fuzzy blanket or a pair of comfy socks. Ultimately coziness is the goal! The goal? Fuzzy blanket, fuzzy socks, fuzzy everything, curled up with a good book, now THAT sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon!
Drink Holders Galore
While your reader is curled up under their fuzzy blanket, with their comfy socks on, they are going to need something to drink. A bookish-related cup, thermos, or glass is a perfect way to ensure your reader stays hydrated until they come out of their reading cocoon.
Specialty Editions Of Their Favorite Books
Avid readers come in all shapes and sizes. With E-readers and audiobooks available, there are a ton of different ways for readers to get their favorite books now. Find out what your reader’s favorite method of reading is, and cater to that. Even if your reader prefers e-books or audio, a beautiful special edition is a perfect trophy for their bookshelf.
Bags For Days
Ensuring that your reader has something to carry their books or e-reader in, is essential! It is important for readers to have at least one book with them for all social engagements and their book needs somewhere to be safe! Look into book-related tote bags (bonus points if you can find one that relates to their favorite book.)
When In Doubt, Gift Cards Are King
There are so many amazing bookish-related gifts and products available today, along with the books themselves; it may be difficult to determine what your reader will like. When in doubt, gift cards are a great option to allow your reader to pick out their own bookish-related fun. Your reader may buy new books, e-books, audiobooks, pens, bookish shirts, etc. Let them run wild (but don’t let them out of your sight if you take them to the bookstore).
Listen to your reader friends when they discuss their new favorite books, authors, series, etc. Oh, and never underestimate how much it might mean to your reader friends to just get together and read for a while.
Happy Reading!
Love all the great ideas! This helps me think of ways to surprise my book nerds.
